 · Steering Box Swap // 67 Camaro // What a Pain Of course the headers are in the way of the box dropping down out of the car I am going to try to unbolt the header from the head and see if I can work it out that way.  · I want to run manual steering and im aware the s10 boxes bolt in, but there turns lock to lock. 2, Posts. #3 · Dec 4, Only show this user. Standard-equipment Z/28 fast ratio manual steering was acomplished through pitman arm/steering arm changes. The steering gear is the standard maunual box used on thousands of Camaros/Novas. For the '69 Z/28 there was a faster manual gear available under RPO N THe manual boxes can be purchased new. The z28 boxes werent any different it was the steering arms and pitman arm that made them a faster ratio. You can buy fast ratio manual boxes from differnt suppliers brand new from places such as discount steering. I've rebuilt mine in my 69z28 but still wish it felt tighter. I have a friend who needs to replace the factory manual steering box on his 67 Camaro. We're looking for a replacment box (maybe quick ratio). I work at a Chevy Dealer and I can't even get the original boxes through GM or Delco anymore. I put a IROC quick ratio power box on my '69 Camaro. It's great. I love it. The car drives so much better.
